HighLevel is not a basic CRM. It is a broad operating system for agencies and businesses, bringing hundreds of features under one roof: lead capture, funnels, CRM, marketing, communications, booking, payments, websites, automation, AI, client sub-accounts, and SaaS resale. A constrained local lead-management starter is buildable, but a faithful replacement is not a one-shot project.

# HighLevel indie build

## Goal

Build the smallest trustworthy replacement for the core HighLevel workflow for one developer or a tiny team.

## Scope

Build one narrow local slice for one business: capture inquiries, manage contacts and deals, schedule follow-ups, and send a few consented email messages.

## Quick start

1. Install the documented dependencies.
2. Copy `.env.example` to `.env`.
3. Run the development command chosen during implementation.
4. Complete the acceptance checks in `BUILD_PLAN.md`.

## Honest limits

This build deliberately does not replace:
- the wider operating system: funnels, websites, reputation, memberships, and client portals
- agency sub-accounts, white-label SaaS resale, and centralized administration
- managed phone, SMS, and email delivery infrastructure
- calendar, payments, AI, reporting, mobile apps, and third-party integrations
- support, uptime, and compliance operations across the stack

If those capabilities are essential, use Twenty instead of pretending the gap is solved.

why people still pay

Agencies pay because HighLevel consolidates an expanding set of customer-acquisition and customer-operations tools into one configured system. Each client workspace accumulates connected phones, email domains, calendars, payments, pages, automations, data, and habits. The subscription buys maintained integrations, deliverability and telephony operations, multi-account administration, and a single support boundary when a flow fails.

questions
Vibecode HighLevel

Not really. HighLevel's value is not the code: This entry targets Starter and describes only the smallest honest DIY slice. See the honest breakdown above.

How much does HighLevel cost?

HighLevel costs about $97/month (Starter, checked 2026-08-07), which is $1164 per year.

What do I lose by replacing HighLevel?

Honestly: the wider operating system: funnels, websites, reputation, memberships, and client portals; agency sub-accounts, white-label SaaS resale, and centralized administration; managed phone, SMS, and email delivery infrastructure; calendar, payments, AI, reporting, mobile apps, and third-party integrations; support, uptime, and compliance operations across the stack. If any of those are load-bearing for you, keep paying.

Is there an open-source alternative to HighLevel?

Yes: Twenty (Open-source CRM groundwork for contacts, companies and deals.), Mautic (Open-source campaign and marketing-automation building block.). Using prior art is also vibecoding; the prompt is for when you want it exactly your way.
