The visible meeting clips + intelligence loop is buildable, but a credible replacement needs more than the first screen. Grain earns its keep through capture, integrations, reliability, so expect a weekend or multi-day build and a narrower personal scope.

# Grain indie build

## Goal

Build the smallest trustworthy replacement for the core Grain workflow for one developer or a tiny team.

## Scope

Build a private meeting clips + intelligence pipeline that accepts an audio file, transcribes it, creates structured notes, and exports Markdown.

## Quick start

1. Install the documented dependencies.
2. Copy `.env.example` to `.env`.
3. Run the development command chosen during implementation.
4. Complete the acceptance checks in `BUILD_PLAN.md`.

## Honest limits

This build deliberately does not replace:
- live multi-speaker accuracy
- calendar and CRM integrations
- cross-call team analytics
- meeting-bot auto-join

If those capabilities are essential, use whisper.cpp instead of pretending the gap is solved.

questions
Vibecode Grain

Kinda. The core of Grain is buildable in a weekend with the prompt on this page, but there are real gaps: live multi-speaker accuracy, calendar and CRM integrations. Read the honest list above before committing.

How much does Grain cost?

Grain's pricing is usage-based or varies by plan · The official pricing URL is recorded, but a stable current amount was not safely recoverable in this pass. Do not publish a number until rechecked..

What do I lose by replacing Grain?

Honestly: live multi-speaker accuracy; calendar and CRM integrations; cross-call team analytics; meeting-bot auto-join. If any of those are load-bearing for you, keep paying.

Is there an open-source alternative to Grain?

Yes: Fathom (Records calls, makes clips, writes basic summaries and searches the archive; deeper customer-intelligence workflows still cost money.) The prompt is for when you want it exactly your way.
