SimpleMind's solo core is compact: build a browser-based mind mapping editor with drag, resize, connect, keyboard shortcuts, autosave, and SVG or PNG export. A competent builder can reach a useful personal version in one sitting, while the paid product mainly wins on interaction polish, collaboration.

# SimpleMind indie build

## Goal

Build the smallest trustworthy replacement for the core SimpleMind workflow for one developer or a tiny team.

## Scope

Build a browser-based mind mapping editor with drag, resize, connect, keyboard shortcuts, autosave, and SVG or PNG export.

## Quick start

1. Install the documented dependencies.
2. Copy `.env.example` to `.env`.
3. Run the development command chosen during implementation.
4. Complete the acceptance checks in `BUILD_PLAN.md`.

## Honest limits

This build deliberately does not replace:
- high-fidelity import and export
- presentation and enterprise controls
- multiplayer cursors and comments
- large template libraries

If those capabilities are essential, use Excalidraw instead of pretending the gap is solved.

why people still pay

SimpleMind: The shapes are easy; customers pay for low-friction editing, reliable exports, collaboration, and a canvas that never fights them.
